Michelle Palmer, Psy.D. is a California Sex Offender Management Board (CASOMB) certified treatment provider who comes to A Step Forward to conduct intake and sexual risk assessments for men who have committed sexual offenses. With over six years of experience working with men who have been convicted of sexual offenses, she conducted intakes and sexual risk assessments, facilitated group and individual therapy, worked concurrently for three years with men charged with a sexual offense and were undergoing the litigation process, and led a “pretrial support group.”
Prior to joining A Step Forward, Dr. Palmer worked with cognitively delayed/Autism Spectrum Disordered men convicted of a sexual offense. She was a group home counselor for teenage boys with behavioral problems, provided dual-diagnosis group therapy for men and women, conducted in-depth psychological testing with seriously mentally ill adults, and provided group therapy and social skills training for women in a residential drug treatment facility. Dr. Palmer maintains an interest in the treatment of trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She received her doctorate from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Orange County; her dissertation examined the perspectives of clinicians providing treatment to military veterans diagnosed with PTSD, for which she researched the effectiveness clinicians believed evidence-based treatments provided veterans. Dr. Palmer brings with her to A Step Forward a wealth of experiences, which she believes is invaluable when working with diverse clients.
