Kimberly Dickson, Psy.D. has dedicated her career to working with adolescents with behavioral/psychological problems and helping their families collaborate in support of positive change. For the past three years, Dr. Dickson has been working at A Step Forward (ASF), providing treatment to families, couples, and adolescents with a wide range of therapeutic needs, including sexual behavior problems. Prior to joining the ASF team, she worked as a childcare counselor, case manager, and therapist for the Northwest Children’s Home (NCH) in Idaho State. Through NCH, she joined with social services and the juvenile justice system in creating treatment plans to meet the needs of at-risk youth, including those with trauma histories and sexual behavior issues.
In addition to her work in residential treatment, Dr. Dickson provided drug and alcohol treatment and family reunification therapy to both homeless and incarcerated mothers and their children. As a CASOMB (California Sex Offender Management Board) certified treatment provider, Dr. Dickson also provides psychological and forensic risk assessments; she has taught and tutored graduate students in the provision and interpretation of psychological testing. Dr. Dickson’s commitment to treating youth and families is a natural fit given her love for creativity and light-hearted humor. She is passionate about the interplay of clinical assessment and treatment and loves using her talents for teaching and connecting as a way to address the individual needs of her clients. Dr. Dickson considers it a privilege to enter the internal lives of her patients and seeks to convey this to all those she treats.
