Alex Schmidt, Psy.D. has been working full time with men accused or convicted of sexual offenses since 2010. As A Step Forward’s Men’s Program Intake Coordinator, she oversees the assessment and placement of new referrals for men who have committed sex offenses. In addition, she conducts sexual risk assessments and treats men with sexual behavior problems in both group and individual sessions. Dr. Schmidt is a CASOMB (California Sex Offender Management Board) certified provider.
She joined ASF’s aftercare program for treated sexual offenders, CORR (Community of Ongoing Resource & Resolution), as a co-facilitator in March of 2012, and has presented on the program with its founder Caprice Haverty, Ph.D. at the California Coalition On Sexual Offending (CCOSO) state conference and at regional meetings. In 2012, Dr. Schmidt completed a dissertation on the potential benefit of extending the containment model to include aftercare for those convicted of sexual offenses. In addition to her work with the men, Dr. Schmidt treats child victims, developmentally disabled adults, non-offending parents, and adults molested as children. Other areas of expertise include body-focused trauma work, LGBTQ identity issues, and anger management. She is state-certified by the Association of Batterer Intervention Providers and offers both group and individual psychotherapy for those mandated to treatment for anger issues.
